Recipe Idea #1 - Hot Meatball Subs while Tailgating.

Posted by

Cool Autumn Days at the ball park (Your Choice)!  Your at the grill and you want to try something different and tasty.  Why not make some Hot Meatball Subs, their quick and easy and will fill you up before the game.  You will need a good sized sauce pan, tin foil, and some utensils!

With a little pre-prep, this will be easy and fun.

  • Buy your favorite Hoagie Roll (or make them if your crazy:)
  • Make and Pre-Bake some Meatball (1 1/2" to 2" in diameter.  Figure 3 - 5 meatballs to a sub roll). {please REFRIGERATE AFTER COOKING AND WHILE TRANSPORTING}
  • Sliced Provolone and Mozzarella cheese (We like cheese).
  • 1 or 2 jars, depending on crowd size of "Setter Mountain" Marinara Sauce or try this with our Roasted Garlic, Roasted Tomato Sauce.

Once the grill is set up and hot, place the meatball AND the sauce in to the sauce pan and heat thoroughly.

Tear of tin foil into sheets (2 sheets per sandwich) a little longer than the Hoagie Roll, save til later.

While meatballs and sauce are heating through, toast the Hoagie Roll.

Place toasted roll on 1 sheet of tin foil and slice, spoon in desired amount of meatballs and sauce, cover with the cheese.

Place 2nd sheet of tin foil over the sandwich and if possible crimp the ends.

Place sandwich on the grill or in the coals just melt the cheese..

Serve with you favorite childhood or adult beverage and any side dishes you might have brought along!
